{March 14, 2008}   How to Save a Life
Womens Hidden Hills - Las Palmas Tuscan with Crease I am sad to report that my first pair of Paige jeans have suffered a tragic blow last night. For a while, I thought perhaps this post might be a eulogy to my beloved denim. However, in dark clouds of regret, there is a faint light. Per my quick google reflexes, my mourning has transformed into hope.

{March 12, 2008}   Walking on Sunshine
Clarks Privo Comice Chi-town is calling, and I am starting to worry about my tootsies. Last time I strolled up and down Michigan Avenue, I made the mistake of wearing slim toe, 2 inch heeled boots for 8 straight hours (and that’s not counting going out for dinner that evening). True, I took a short break for lunch, but tell that to my aching feet. It actually hurt to put on the same shoes the next day.

{March 10, 2008}   So Like a Rose
Ruby Republic Tea Rose Of the number of things I remember about my great grandmother on my mother’s side, a few simple memories stand out. She always wore her hair in a neat french twist for which my mother would buy her ornate combs. She smelled of Timeless by Avon. She always had bottles of 7-Up in the refrigerator and her ceramic cookie jar shaped like a strawberry was always filled with peppermints. She loved the color red. And she had a thing for red roses.

I think back to her red kitchen and I remember wanting an all red kitchen of my own someday. I remember falling in love with red roses the same way. And I remember the large arrangement of red roses on her casket this very day 14 years ago. Ever since, I’ve been making positive memories with red roses, to a point where I guess you could say they have become my thing as well.

I’d like to think my great grandmother would dig this t-shirt by Ruby Republic because it is oh so me. I could only wish to look like such a badass in it, but considering the affordability, perhaps I’ll frame it and appreciate the aesthetic of the beautiful blooms in an all red room of my own someday.

{March 06, 2008}   Get the Party Started
pingg Simply stylish invite creation - a perfect description of what pingg is all about. Finally, a sexy, sleek substitute for the visually unappealing Evite! No more clip art here. Be ready to be dazzled by stunning photography and design for any event or occasion. Even more cool, pingg is not limited to e-mail. You can also also invite by SMS, web, print or social network.

The service is free with exception of communicating by text message ($1.50 for 20 messages), unique invitation designs and invitation printing ($1.50 a piece including postage), and for use of photos from the pingg Plus+ library. For giving you the ability to upload photos and videos, integrate gift registries, collect money from your guests and include maps to your event, I think they’re allowed to ask for compensation on specialty items. Especially considering there are zero banner ads.

Seriously, kids, this is the next hot service in online invitations. Be the first of your social circle and register today. I’m sure you’ll fall in love instantly. I may have to create an event just to send out an invite and not the other way around!

{March 04, 2008}   Hermione and the Honeys
Ministry of Magic - The Triwizard LP It’s clear to me that I have failed at being a die hard Harry Potter fan on several levels. I haven’t written any alternative stories, developed a blog completely devoted to HP, branded my body with a HP tattoo or named one of my pets after a beloved HP character. But how cliche, right? I thought it was enough to read all the books, see all the movies (several times over), purchase HP merchandise and even put together my very own Hermione costume, including a custom made wand (a-thank you).

Apparently not. I have missed one crucial and unique step to ultimate Hogwarts geekdom - starting my own Wizard Rock band. Yes. You heard me. Wizard Rock. The scary part is, some of these bands are actually good. Check out Iowa natives, Ministry of Magic, straight out of Ames. Or how about The Parselmouths, Romilda Vane and the Chocolate Cauldrons, or Draco and the Malfoys.

Mind you, I won’t be running out to hit the next jam session at my local library. However the thought that I have Garage Band did cross my mind…. All girl group - Hermione and the Honeys? ;) Thanks to Penny Arcade for this tasty tidbit of info.

P.S. Add creating my own music video tributes to the list. I’d make some snide comment about too much free time and having a life, but it would be out of jealousy because I didn’t come up with it first.

Gotti Boys Wait. So, what was Growing up Gotti doing taping in Iowa City?

{February 26, 2008}   Corners like it’s on rails
iMac My new iMac arrived today and I absolutely LOVE it. No more hunching over a 13″ Powerbook screen. This baby is the real deal. If the ginormous screen and storage capacity weren’t enough, I swapped out the 1GB memory card for 4 GB of RAM so it really flies. No longer will I have to worry about my computer chunking up and freezing when I edit video. With this much memory, I could probably open every application on here and it would still operate.

I can’t wait to see what comes of owning my new computer. Clearly, that will depend on my personal motivation, but it’s nice to have the tools to make just about anything in my imagination a reality.

{February 26, 2008}   New MacBook and MacBook Pros now available
Macbook Pro Bigger, better and faster, the new Macbook and Macbook Pros are here. Of course, these updates would be made as I sit and wait for my new iMac to arrive. However, no regrets. One, my computer is going to be MUCH more powerful. Two, it’s difficult to know what Apple may do next, and who wants to spend life waiting and never actually follow through on anything just because the next best thing may be right around the corner?

{February 25, 2008}   Pondering the Oscars
Jennifer Garner on the red carpet Is it just me, or was the Academy Awards a little stale last night? There were entirely too many montages and not enough of Jon Stewart. It would seem that most of the action happened before and after the show, as seen when poor Jennifer Garner was accosted by Gary Busey on the red carpet (see the video). What the H-E double hockey sticks was that about?

At least the incident was more interesting than the coverage of the awards by E!. Their “reporters” are so wrapped up talking about their own personal lives, they only get about as deep as asking the person they are interviewing, “What are you wearing?” One favorite question of mine is “What’s new for you? Have any big projects coming up?” when the actor clearly has a newly released movie in theaters.

Hello, honey, do your homework. If you knew anything about your job, you would at least know what films were opening this weekend. I apologize for all those that have ever made fun of Ryan Seacrest, because he’s a genius compared to his dumb as rocks co-hosts. I swear, the next time Giuliana DePandi opens her mouth, I may try to smack her through the TV screen. And it won’t be pretty.

{February 25, 2008}   Give a Little Bit
Heidi Klum Oscar Dress As a woman with a family history of heart disease, I am fully in support of promoting actions to help the cause. Heidi Klum is auctioning off her Academy Awards stunning red silk Haute Couture by John Galliano gown to benefit women’s heart health. You can bid on Heidi’s couture gown at mycokerewards.com. A winner will be chosen on March 10, and apparently, you can use any Diet Coke reward points to bid for the dress!

I can only imagine what the bids may look like at this point, so I’ll have to bow out due to lack of fundage and choose to be charitable my own way. And the fact that my cats would completely destroy it if I were to win (see: every sweater I own that has ever dared to lay anywhere but on a VERY high shelf in my closet). But that doesn’t mean you can’t give it a go on this saucy number.

Come on, Project Runway fans. You know you want to find a way to make it work. The clock is ticking!
